In 2084, a few years after a devastating asteroid swarm struck Earth, humanity stands on the brink of extinction. The impacts obliterated infrastructure across continents, while massive tsunamis claimed billions of lives. In the aftermath, survivors face the daunting task of rebuilding a world forever altered, where the remnants of society grapple with control, survival, and the fragility of human existence.
The game takes place on Hinnøya, Norway's largest island, now isolated from the rest of the world. The once-thriving city of Harstad and the surrounding rural areas serve as the backdrop for this post-apocalyptic struggle for survival.
Players can create and customize their character as the game begins, choosing their background, skills, and appearance. Your story starts in one of the small settlements that have sprung up in the ruins of Harstad or the nearby countryside.
The survivors on Hinnøya are cut off from the outside world, unaware if anyone beyond their island has survived the cataclysm. In the face of this isolation, people have banded together, forming small clans and factions to increase their chances of survival. However, some powerful groups have emerged, ruling through fear and violence. A mysterious signal is detected by some of the surviving communication equipment, hinting at the possibility of other survivors beyond the island. The player sets out to unfold this mystery and must decide if they should forge alliances or stain the soil with the blood of another.
The Voyage: Arise offers a gritty, realistic take on post-apocalyptic survival, set against Norway's stunning natural beauty and the remnants of a once-thriving society. Every choice matters as players fight for a future in this harsh new world. Staying hydrated, fed, well-rested, and protected from the elements provides a significant challenge exacerbated by the hellish Fimbullwinter ravaging the land.
The trilogy's first installment offers endless replayability despite being a single-player game. Dialogue and events can change for each playthrough, offering new and exciting challenges every time. AI is a vital component of the stories being told as it acts as both a dungeon master and as a fellow adventurer or as a foe. Flexible and intuitive settings enable players to decide how the AI acts and behaves. For those who enjoy creating themselves, there are many available agents to assist in such endeavors, and several other implementations of the most recent technological advances are being introduced.
One of the more noteworthy innovations is bringing items to subsequent titles. Blockchain technology (5) makes it possible to build an arsenal of epic weapons, collections of armor, and other items. Bringing some of your unlocked skills to future franchise releases is possible. This is enabled through the Heritage System, where you can play as a descendant of your character, thus inheriting skills and abilities and optional visual traits.
The game also offers the gameplay and features one can expect in popular games in the genre, such as crafting, an advanced character progression system, difficult moral choices, a vast open world to explore, and facilitating several game styles, such as head-on combat, stealth, diplomacy, and manipulation, to name a few.
Our games feature diverse factions that add depth and complexity to the game world. Each faction comprises individuals with their own motivations, ambitions, and conflicts, creating rich internal dynamics that players can observe and interact with. Skilled players can navigate these political waters, potentially using internal rivalries and tensions to their advantage through diplomacy, negotiation, or manipulation. This layered approach to faction dynamics creates meaningful choices and encourages strategic thinking, whether players are loyal allies or master manipulators.
As game developers, we believe in creating spaces where players can freely explore, experiment, and engage with our games on their own terms. The essence of gaming lies in its interactive nature - the joy of discovery, the thrill of overcoming challenges, and the freedom to make meaningful choices. Our role is to craft engaging experiences that respect our players' autonomy and intelligence. Particularly in role-playing games like our trilogy, we consider it essential to provide an open framework where players can authentically express themselves and explore different perspectives within the game world. While we maintain appropriate legal and ethical boundaries, we trust our players to engage with our content in ways that resonate with their playing styles and preferences.
This philosophy of player freedom and respect has been and will continue to be, at the core of our game development approach.
The Voyage: Trilogy is a testament to this philosophy.
